Approximately 80% of their income is derived from the sale of their product. Higher export prices through certification are passed on to farmers. They own their land and control their livelihood. The farmers are organized in associations with the aim of obtaining a better price and actively driving the development of their communities.

The associations are led by a Board of Directors which is elected in a democratic and transparent manner. A development plan is created by the association members. For instance, the plan determines how the Fair Trade premium is invested in their local communities.
